Call, email or fax your legislators urging them to:

• Oppose HB 2721 which fast-tracks water permits for nuclear reactors by not allowing contested case hearings. Nuclear reactors use huge amounts of water, and Gov. Perry has requested federal assistance for drought. Fast-tracking of water permits and denying basic due process and citizen rights to a hearing is unacceptable. The bill is authored by Reps. Dan Flynn (Canton) and Bill Callegari (Houston) and is co-sponsored by Rep. Phil King (Weatherford)

 

• Support HB 3423 which would close the loophole in the Compact Waste Agreement. Waste was originally only going to come from Maine, Vermont and Texas, but the loophole allows radioactive waste from any state to be dumped in Texas.

 

• Support energy efficiency and renewable solar and wind power energy solutions. Nuclear or so-called "clean coal" must not be classified or funded as renewable or clean energy choices.
